Japanese girl suicide over English

JAKARTA (JP): A teenage Japanese girl was found dead in the parking lot of the Senayan Apartments in Central Jakarta early Friday morning.

Tanah Abang subprecinct police chief Ass. Supt. Agusta Romano said on Friday that the girl, identified as Tsuyoaka, 17, had most likely committed suicide due to her failure in mastering the English language.

The girl who was suffering from depression was believed to have jumped from her room on the 26th floor of the Senayan Apartments to the ground, the officer said.

Tsuyoaka studied at the Jakarta International School in Pondok Indah, South Jakarta, Antara reported.

"The girl was found dead in the apartment parking area by her father, Koji, who reportedly works at the Japanese Embassy here. He had gotten up early Friday morning to find that his daughter was not in her room," Agusta said.

"We suspect that she killed herself due to her depression over not being able to master the English language. She can only speak Japanese."

Witnesses at the scene said on Friday that Koji found his daughter face down with severe head wounds, in the parking lot at 5:30 a.m.

Till Friday night, nobody from the Japanese Embassy could be reached for comment.

The girl's family, Antara reported, were against the idea of a postmortem examination being performed on their daughter's body, and were scheduled to fly the body to Tokyo on Friday night.(ylt)
