Japanese girl arrested with drugs in panties

Police have arrested two foreign women for carrying marijuana in two separate cases. One suspect hid the illegal drug inside her underwear.

Shima Erena, a 27-year-old Japanese national, was nabbed on Thursday with marijuana hidden in her underwear during a drug raid at Padangbai Port in Karangasem regency on the resort island of Bali.

Shima arrived at the port with a group of Japanese tourists when police officers asked to examined each of them.

Shima reportedly tried to evade arrest by asking permission to go to a nearby public toilet, Antara reported on Friday.

When she reappeared from the toilet, the police officers noticed that she was walking with her thighs close together.

The police asked her to remove her underwear, and found a small package containing 2.9 grams of dried marijuana leaves.

The police have detained Shima, who is a designer and painter, at Karangasem Police station for interrogation.

They said the suspect admitted that she bought the drug for 5,000 yen from a drug trader in Kuta, Bali, on Wednesday for personal use.

In a separate case, Medan Police in North Sumatra arrested Laura Melly during a raid on Friday morning on Jl. Perdana, Medan.

Police said they found an envelope containing dried marijuana leaves in a taxi in which Melly was traveling.

She is being detained at the Medan Baru Police substation for questioning. The suspects was identified as a 24-year-old English teacher at a language teaching center in Medan.

She told the police that she had been in Medan for six months and was currently living in the city's Taman Setia Budi Indah residential complex.
