Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko (right) upon her
arrival at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. Megawati visited the
palace on Sept. 28 as part of her five-day trip to Japan.

NEW DAM: Wonorejo Dam is the highest and newest dam in the
Brantas River Basin. It was constructed with a loan provided by
the Japanese government. The dam provides water and electricity
for the Surabaya area.

Indonesian and Japanese children show the results of their
creativity at a painting session held at the Jakarta Japanese
School. The activity was organized by the Japan Foundation.

QUAKE VICTIMS: A Japanese non-governmental organization, Peace
Winds Japan (PWJ) provide emergency assistance for the victims of
a major earthquake. PWJ donated food, medicines and construction
materials for the rebuilding of houses for victims of the
earthquake which occurred on June 28 in West Java this year.

DIRECT INVESTMENT: Workers at a Japanese company in Indonesia. To
date there are 1,000 Japanese business enterprises which have
been established through direct investment. A total of more than
200,000 Indonesians are employed in such companies.
