Japanese cemetery

On Jan. 11, 1997, The Jakarta Post published a picture on the
front page of the visit of Japanese Prime Minister Ryutaro
Hashimoto to the public cemetery at Jati Petamburan in Central
Jakarta.

The caption read: "... to pay tribute to Japanese soldiers
buried there..." In fact, the Japanese graveyard is a place where
ashes of the Japanese who died in Jakarta since the Emperor Meiji
era are stored, including the ashes of the Japanese school
principal who died in a road accident outside Jakarta a few years
ago.

The prime minister visited the cemetery to pay tribute to all
Japanese whose ashes are enshrined there.
