Japan to exhibit ancient paintings

UJUNGPANDANG, S. Sulawesi: The Japanese Cultural Center, through its consulate here, will display more than 60 ancient Japanese paintings from Oct. 22 to Oct. 28.

Antara quoted Japanese Consul Takonai Susumu as saying yesterday the collection of ancient paintings is expected to arrive here from Jakarta in the next few days.

"The exhibition is part of the Japanese Cultural Center's program for various provinces in Indonesia," he said.

The exhibition, to be held in cooperation with the school of arts and languages of the state-owned Teachers' Training Institute (IKIP) here, aims to broaden the cultural awareness of the local people. (swe)
