Japan to back RI airport security
JAKARTA: The Japanese government is planning to send a survey team in September to assess what assistance is needed by Indonesia to improve security at airports across the country.
Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia Yutaka Iimura said on Monday that the assistance was part of Tokyo's support in the global fight against terrorism.
"We shall dispatch a mission to strengthen security at airports in terms of technology and equipment," Limura said while accompanying Japanese parliament deputy speaker Kozo Watanabe in a meeting with President Megawati Soekarnoputri.
Lamura said the team would consist of officials from the foreign affairs ministry, transportation ministry and police, and would determine the type of security assistance Indonesia needed. --JP
