Japan provides grants for children

JAKARTA: The government of Japan approved on Friday US$1.56 million in grants for Indonesia to help children suffering from malnutrition in East Nusa Tenggara and West Nusa Tenggara.

The Emergency Grant Aid will be channeled through the United Nation's World Food Program (WFP), according to a statement from the Japanese Embassy.

The WFP asked the government of Japan to help it provide skim milk for children under the age of five in the two provinces who are suffering from malnutrition.

About 180,000 children in the provinces are suffering from malnutrition due to a severe drought this year that harmed crops. -- JP
