Japan Foundation offers international exchanges

The Japan Foundation was established in 1972 as a special
legal entity under the auspices of the Japanese Ministry of
Foreign Affairs. The purpose of the foundation is to efficiently
carry out activities for international cultural exchange.

In Indonesia, the Japan Foundation's Jakarta Liaison Office
was opened in 1974, and it was transformed into the Japan
Cultural Center Jakarta (Pusat Kebudayaan Jepang Jakarta). Also,
the Japanese Language Center (Pusat Bahasa Jepang) was opened in
1991 to provide concrete backup for on-site Japanese language
education.

The foundation's library boasts a collection of 26,000 books
and periodicals related to Japan, with about 15,000 of them in
Japanese.

Membership is open to residents of Jakarta and surrounding
areas who are 17 years old and over. There is an administration
fee charged to members.

The library is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. On
Saturdays the library is open from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The
library is closed on Wednesdays, Sundays, national holidays and
on the second and fourth Saturday of each month.
