Jamie Aditya nominated for best presenter

JAKARTA (JP): Three local programs - all broadcast by Indosiar - have been nominated for the Asian Television Awards 2000, while Jamie Aditya, an Indonesian presenter of MTV Asia, is in the shortlist for Best Light Entertainment Presenter/Performer category.

Family 100 is nominated for Best Quiz Program, Horison for Best Magazine Program and Satu Jam Bersama Sheila Majid (An hour with Sheila Majid) for the Best Music Program.

The winners will be announced on Dec. 7 in Singapore.

This year's competition saw nearly 1,100 entries from 13 countries in the 24 different award categories. Singapore remains the biggest participant, followed by the Philippines and India. The award nominations are also dominated by Singapore (33) and the Philippines (22). Other countries whose entries won nominations are Hong Kong (11), India (7), Japan (7), China (4), Taiwan (3), Korea (2), Malaysia (2) and Thailand (1).

Indonesian Teleseries or sinetron, many of them screened during prime time in most privates stations here, failed to win the judges' heart.

Zoraya Perucha from ANteve, who is one of the 35 judges, said it took the judges less than five minutes to decide that a sinetron did not deserve any award.

"Our sinetron cannot be compared to those from countries like the Philippines, Japan, Singapore or Hong Kong, we lag behind them in budget, technique, acting skills and production values," said Zoraya, who is a former national athlete and a movie actress.

Last year AnTeve's Majalah Olahraga (Sports Magazine) won the Asian Television Award for the Best Sports Program. (sim)
