Jambi's new mayor dead

JAMBI: Jambi's mayor-elect, Muhammad Sabki, 59, has died only days before he was to be sworn in later this month.

Sabki died of a stroke with symptoms of typhus in Jakarta Tuesday night. His body arrived here yesterday afternoon.

Sabki comfortably won the provincial legislature's March 23 mayoral election, capturing three-fourths of the vote.

He is survived by his wife and five children, Antara reported.
