Jambi children suffer malnutrition

JAMBI, Jambi: Over 9,700 children below the age of five here are suffering from malnutrition, but only 3,500 of them have received proper medical assistance, an official said on Thursday.

Head of the provincial health office Abdul Hamid Syam told Antara that the central government had been told about the office's inability to help all the malnourished children. He said promises of aid were yet to arrive.

In the effort the children, Hamid said Governor Abdurrahman had ordered his staff to seek out private donors.

Hamid said seven babies died in June from malnutrition.
