Jakarta wins Junior C'ships

SEMARANG (JP): Jakarta won the overall championship at the National Karate Junior Championships at Jatidiri indoor stadium on Sunday evening.

The team from the capital finished with nine golds, seven silvers and five bronzes. North Sumatra finished in second with four golds, three silvers and two bronzes and South Sumatra in third with two golds.

Joko of Jakarta won the title of best male fighter by defeating Wahyu of East Java, while the girls' title went to Teli of Jakarta, who defeated Natalia of South Sumatra.

About 500 karatekas competed in the eight-division event, which was officially closed by the chairman of the Indonesian Karate-Do Federation, Gen. (ret) Wiranto. (har)
