Jakarta students win tickets to UK

JAKARTA: Bernardine Andara Fembriarto and Eunike Stephanie Sastrawidjaja, two Jakarta senior high-school students, won an English-language video making competition organized by the British Council.

For their achievement, they will enjoy a two-week visit to England, where they will join winners from 12 other countries to meet with a number of prominent British figures, learn about educational opportunities there and watch British cultural shows.

Both Bernardine of SMU Gonzaga and Eunike of SMU Pelita Harapan beat around 100 students aged between 15 years and 18 years from across the country.

Participants in the competition were required to explain in their videos who they are, what they are studying, why they would like to study in the UK and what they think about the UK, within three minutes.

The competition, the first to be held in Indonesia, also took place in Thailand, Russia, China, Egypt, Vietnam and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), British Council marketing and communication manager Simon Giverin said.
