Jakarta Open attracts more shuttlers

JAKARTA: Organizers expect more than 1,000 shuttlers to take part in the 2002 Yonex-Sunrise Jakarta Open from April 23 to April 28 at the Bung Karno Sports Complex.

"There will be 1,014 shuttlers compared with the 800 shuttlers who participated last year," the chairman of the tournament's organizing committee, Leo Christian Wiranat, told reporters on Thursday.

"They are coming not only from Java-based clubs, but also from other islands such as Kalimantan, Sumatra and Sulawesi."

Leo said the tournament gave shuttlers from outside Java the chance to test their skills.

Also, shuttlers from Malaysia and Germany are registered for the satellite tournament. -- JP
