Jakarta-N. Europe shipping

JAKARTA (JP): The world's largest container shipping alliance, the Grand Alliance, launched its first direct service to Indonesia with the arrival of OOCL Fortune at Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) last Friday to start a new direct service between the country's premier port and North Europe.

JICT said here in a statement that the Grand Alliance consists of five global shipping partners, namely Hapag-Lloyd, Malaysia International Shipping Corporation, Nippon Yusen Kaisha Line, Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) and P&0-Nedlloyd.

The 241-meter long OOCL Fortune has a capacity of 2,850 TEUs(twenty-feet equivalent units) and together with seven more vessels from the Grand Alliance partners, will serve the ports of Southampton (United Kingdom), Rotterdam, Hamburg, La Spezia (Italy) and many other destinations by transshipping containers at these ports.
