JAKARTA: In observance of the country's 59th Independence Day on Aug. 17, the National Brotherhood Foundation is to organize a national symposium on reform and Indonesia's future.

Chairman of the symposium's organizing committee Marzuki Darusman said here on Tuesday the national meeting on Aug. 3 and Aug. 4 would feature a number of well-known figures, experts and intellectuals and high-ranking government officials, including National Development Planning Board chairman Kwik Kian Gie, Indonesia Military chief Gen. Endriartono Sutarto, sociologist Daniel Dhakidae and political analyst Ikrar Nusa Bhakti.

The symposium will be held in line with the foundations's deep concern over the stagnant reform agenda and social fragmentation that threatens national unity, he said.

It is hoped that the two-day meeting will result in recommendations for the future of the nation and the next national leader, to continue with reform and strengthen national unity. --JP
