Jakarta hosts rights symposium
JAKARTA: Indonesia will host the fourth multilateral symposium on human rights, which will be opened on Monday by Minister of Foreign Affairs Hassan Wirayuda.
Ministry spokesman Marty Natalegawa said on Friday that current human rights issues worldwide would be discussed in the two-day event.
"Among the topics will be the corporate and social responsibilities of human rights, advantages and challenges in the Internet era, minority rights and human rights training for the police," Marty said.
Sponsored by the governments of Canada, China and Norway, many countries such as Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia will send their representatives to the meeting.
The annual symposium was held in Canada last year, when Indonesia offered to play host for this year's event. -- JP
