Jakarta Hilton presents Balinese cuisine festival

Evi Mariani, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

Do you have a craving for Balinese dishes like sate lilit and bebek betutu but do not have time to fly to the island?

There's good news. You don't have to fly there because Jakarta Hilton hotel has flown two of the Bali Hilton's best chefs to Jakarta to bring you the best of Bali cuisine from March 7 through March 19.

Better still, you can savor the food while watching Balinese dancers adopt intense expressions while moving their dainty fingers, all to the accompaniment of exhilarating Balinese music.

The hotel is presenting the special dance and music performances on March 12, March 18 and March 19 only.

The chefs, I Putu Padmanaba and I Wayan Linggih from Bali Hilton Nusa Dua, are offering the famous bebek betutu (roast duck in banana leaf) and lawar kacang panjang (beans with spicy, grated coconut), as well as other popular items.

At the hotel's Sriwedari Garden Restaurant, the chefs are also serving a variety of grilled fish with a range of mouthwatering sambal (chili sauce).

Vegetarians can pick from a variety of salads with exotic vegetables and fruit.

With the meal, you can try a glass of Hatten Rose or Balinese red wine.

Balinese cuisine is famous for its spicy food that includes fish, pork and a wide range of vegetables. However, finding Balinese food here is not as easy as seeking out Padang, Sundanese or Chinese cuisine.

Sriwedari Restaurant is serving the food buffet-style, where diners may choose whatever they want and eat as much as they like.
