Jakarta expects to boost exports

JAKARTA: The city administration expects to boost its exports through Tanjung Priok sea port and Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to Japan, Middle Eastern countries and the United States, an official has said.

Economic assistant to city secretary Rusdi Yusuf said on Friday that the administration hosted a meeting on Thursday to discuss export prospects at the Hilton Hotel here.

Rusdi said chiefs of the International Trade Promotion Centers (ITPC), including Jasdi Darwis of ITPC Dubai, Syamsul Siregar of ITPC Osaka, and Lili Saroyo Danusatro of ITPC Los Angeles, were invited to hold a discussion with 80 Jakarta businessmen about export prospects.

He said Japan needed marine products, handicrafts and rattan products, Middle Eastern countries needed clothes, wood and plywood while the United States was interested in agricultural products.--JP
