Jakarta City Hall officials don new hats as mayors

Damar Harsanto, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

Jakarta City Council approved on Friday the appointment of two officials from City Hall as the mayors of the Central Jakarta and West Jakarta municipalities, marking a major reshuffle in the administration.

"It's a normal reshuffle as some of our officials are due to retire," Governor Sutiyoso said.

The officials are Muhayat, the current administration spokesman, and Fadjar A. Panjaitan, head of the Jakarta District Administration Office.

The two are among the three approved by the City Council out of six candidates proposed earlier by the city administration.

The other is the current deputy regent of Kepulauan Seribu regency, Djoko Ramadhan, who will replace the retiring regent.

The three rejected candidates are Sylviana Murni, head of the Jakarta Population Agency, Syahrul Effendy, head of the Jakarta National Unity Agency and Pinondang Simanjuntak, head of the Jakarta Public Lighting Agency.

"The letter from the council has been on Governor Sutiyoso's desk since this morning. Therefore, the three candidates approved in it will be appointed," said Jakarta City Secretary Ritola Tasmaya at City Hall.

Ritola said that the installation of the new mayors and regent would take place before the Idul Fitri holidays in November, along with the installation of other 30 city officials.

The assistant to the Jakarta City Secretary for Development Affairs, IGKG Suena, will be replaced by the Assistant to the Secretary for Economic Affairs, Hari Sandjojo.

Suena, who is due to retire, will take over the city-owned property developer, PT Jakarta Propertindo.

Hari's post will be filled by the Assistant to the Secretary for Financial Affairs, Ma'mun Amin.

Ma'mun's shoes will be filled by Deden Supriadi, the current head of the Jakarta Revenue Agency.

Aside from Suena, other officials who will retire this year are the Central Jakarta mayor, Hosea Petra Lumbun, the head of the culture and museums agency, Nurhadi Sastrapraja, the head of the mental and spiritual development agency, Syarifuddin Mahfudz, the head of the animal husbandry, fishing and maritime affairs agency, Mohammad Rahardjo, the head of the sports and youth agency, Yudhi Suyoto, and Moch. Natsir, the head of the public welfare office.

Sutiyoso is scheduled to brief the new officials on Monday.

"After six months, I will evaluate their performance. I will replace them if I find they have been performing poorly," Sutiyoso promised.
