Jailed corruptor dies
MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: D.J. Sambara, 57, who was serving a three-year jail sentence for corruption, died of a heart attack at Mataram hospital over the weekend.
"The convict was brought to hospital on Sunday morning and died later that evening. His body was flown to Tana Toraja, South Sulawesi, for burial on Monday," said Made Mudana, an official at the Mataram correctional facility.
Made said yesterday that while in jail, Sambara had never complained of feeling ill and was, in fact, a diligent exerciser, Antara reported.
However, during an exercise session early Sunday morning he became weak and was immediately rushed to hospital.
Sambara was convicted of embezzling Rp 24 million from a local development project. He was not due to be released until July 1998. (mds)
