Jackie Chan tired of fighting

HONG KONG: At 48, Jackie Chan is getting sick of performing stunts, and wants to play more dramatic roles.

"I'm tired of fighting. I've always known that I can't be an action star all my life," Chan said on Monday at a news conference promoting the local premiere of The Tuxedo, which opened last week in the United States. "I want to be a real actor."

Chan said he was searching for a good dramatic script like the Oscar-winning Gladiator or the espionage thriller Spy Game, instead of simply repeating his roles in comedy action films such as the Rush Hour movies and Shanghai Noon.

He has already lined up an appearance in a film by Taiwanese art-house director Edward Yang, and plans to do a musical in which he'll show off his singing and dancing abilities.

With the success of the Rush Hour movies, the martial arts star said he is proud to have his work finally recognized overseas.

"In the past when I was in Hollywood, I was like a dog. I felt humiliated. My English was not good. People would even ask me 'Jackie Who?'" Chan said. --AP
