Jabotabek seeks coordination

JAKARTA (JP): The administrations of Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang and Bekasi are seeking ways for better coordination in their development programs.

Budhy Tjahjati S. Soegijoko, a deputy of the National Development Planning Board in charge of overseas cooperation, said better management of public transportation, drainage, garbage and river pollution are among subjects under review by a number of institutions.

The administrations of Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang and Bekasi (Jabotabek) have set up a development coordination board. However, the board has proven ineffective in handling development in Jabotabek. Experts say the interests of the respective administrations is the reason for the failure of the existing board.

Budhy said after a discussion on settlements at the United Nations Information Center yesterday that urban management will be increasingly important in the future. (anr)
