Jababeka opens for small enterprises

JAKARTA: The Jababeka industrial zone has allocated 15 hectares to accommodate about 1,000 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

PT Kawasan Industri Jababeka director, Darmono, said that they were expecting at least 100 SMEs this year.

Jababeka, which stands for Jakarta, Bogor, Bekasi and Karawang, is an industrial zone especially geared for factories with lease prices at between Rp 500 million and Rp 2 billion per month.

"Businesspeople can also buy a plot of land inside the industrial zone, but the price depends on the location," Darmono was quoted as saying by Tempointeraktif.com.

There are 100 industrial zones nationwide and over 42 million SME.

Darmono said that the ideal ratio would be for every large factory, there should be three medium-sized ones and 10 small.

"A small food-production facility can help in providing food for workers at big companies or factories," he cogently suggested. -- JP
