Minister of Industry and Trade Tunky Ariwibowo officially
started yesterday construction of the Jababeka-Cilegon Industrial
estate.
PT Kawasan Industri Jababeka president Ismail Sofyan, said the
first phase, covering 200 hectares, was expected to be completed
in 1998.
"The premarketing activities have been underway since the
middle of the year. The entire project is expected to be
completed by 2006," he said after the project's groundbreaking
ceremony.

The industrial estate is located near the East Cilegon-
Bojonegara interchange, Serang regency, West Java, about 90
kilometers west of Jakarta. It is located near the Bojonegara
harbor which is now under construction.
Ismail said the developer, Jababeka, would provide modern
infrastructure, including roads, drainage systems, a wastewater
treatment plant, a clean water treatment plant, jetty and tank
farm facilities, power generators, cargo terminals for trains, a
telephone network, gas pipelines, greenery and street lights for
public convenience.
Publicly listed Kawasan Industri Jababeka currently runs a
large industrial estate in Bekasi.
