Iwah summoned to police HQs

JAKARTA: Iwah Setiawati, a widow of Supreme Court Justice, M. Syafiuddin Kartasasmita, was summoned to the City Police headquarters on Wednesday to be questioned as an additional witness in the case of Hutomo "Tommy" Mandala Putra's lawyer, Elza Syarief, who allegedly bribed two witnesses to lie in court during her client's trial.

Iwah, who was questioned for about two hours, admitted that Elza often met her and her late husband in Iwah's house.

Syafiuddin was shot dead in 2001, allegedly upon Tommy's order.

After the questioning, Iwah and her lawyer H. Tabat refused to talk to journalists.

City police spokesman Sr. Comr. Anton Bachrul Alam said that Iwah's testimony was needed to complete the dossier of Elza.

The police were reportedly planning to postpone the detention of Elza on Thursday.--JP
