IWA, Ramli to hold bazaars

INDONESIA: Two upcoming bazaars in Jakarta will offer the opportunity for shoppers to snap up some bargains, and do some social good in the process.

The Indian Women's Association (IWA) will hold an international charity bazaar on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m at Four Seasons Hotel in South Jakarta. Clothing, fashion accessories, food, handicrafts and perfumes, from India, Indonesia and other countries, will be available.

"All proceeds go to charity," said IWA vice president Saira Jethnani, emphasizing that the event is open to all. "We have yet to fix the charities, but we are looking at education, scholarships for children and also helping street children."

Local designer Ramli, noted for his use of embroidery in Muslim fashion, will hold a celebration of his 29-year-long career at Sahid Jaya Hotel in Central Jakarta. The retrospective, held from Monday to Wednesday, will feature Ramli's creations, including a fashion show, with about 20 other vendors, most offering fashion items. It is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. -- JP
