ITS provides free education for youths

SURABAYA: The November 10 Institute of Technology (ITS) in Surabaya, East Java started on Friday a free education program for 62 street kids, dropouts and poor children.

ITS assistant rector Achmad Jazidie said the program was established in cooperation with the education ministry's directorate general for informal education.

The 62 children would be divided into three vocational classes -- car generator maintenance, general engine repair and printing.

The students would be monitored closely and ITS will consider sponsoring eligible students to go on to higher education.

The ITS also said that it was ready to provide financial donations for students who wanted to start their own businesses. -- Antara
