It's a matter of service to mankind

I am a regular reader of The Jakarta Post. I was shocked to read about the bombing in front of the Australian Embassy which claimed nine lives. It is equally shocking that our leaders of major political parties kept "mum" on the issue.

Leaders like Abdurrahman "Gus Dur" Wahid, Wiranto and Amien Rais did not speak or utter a word of sympathy etc. on the issue -- forget about visiting the bomb site or hospital to show solidarity.

We should not forget that Wiranto and Amien Rais gathered substantial support from the people when they garnered about 30 percent of the votes in the first round of the presidential election.

I may be wrong if I have not read the full contents of your editions or viewed TV programs to have a glimpse of statements made by the leaders. It might be that the sole responsibility of making statements or otherwise, rests with the president and the remaining candidates of the second round of the presidential election.

The political parties, along with their members, could do proper to do some social work or service to mankind of our country.
