Italian's Aterballet in town with 'Omaggio a Bach - Cantata'

The Italian dance company Compagnia Aterbaletto performs for a second and last night on Wednesday at the Gedung Kesenian Jakarta (GKJ).
Under the artistic direction from top coreographer Mauro Bigonzetti, the Omaggio a Bach - Cantata show features original and traditional music from southern Italy, arranged and performed live by ensemble Gruppo Musicale Assurd.
According to organizers including the Italian Cultural Center here, the company, founded in 1979, has earned wide recognition both at home and abroad and has been dubbed the best Italian dance company.
Under the artistic direction of Bigonzetti, the company is known for its solo dancers.
Bigonzetti, who graduated from the School of Rome's Opera has been awarded with various prizes as dancer and coreographer.
He joined the company and performed as soloist and first dancer in ballets by Rolland Petit, Leonard Massine, Aurel Milloss.
Among dozens of dancers who will take the stage are Ashen Ataljanc, first prize winner at the World Ballet Couples Competition in Osaka, Japan in 1991 and Sveva Berti who in the last nine years performed important roles in the works of Glen Tetley, William Forsythe, Alvin Ailey, Balanchine and Amodio.
