Istiqlal Festival opened
JAKARTA (JP): Rector of the Bandung Institute of Technology Wiranto Arismunandar opened the second provincial Istiqlal Festival yesterday.
Underlining the importance of the event, which features a series of seminars on Islamic subjects, Wiranto said that science and technology could not be effectively implemented without considering the cultural elements, Antara reported.
Among the speakers were Prof. Ayatrohaedi from the University of Indonesia with his paper entitled Sundanese Islam and Islamic Sunda, and Maulana Pakuningrat Sultan Sepuh XII of the Cirebon Sultanate who discussed Islam and the Javanese tradition of Cirebon. Director of Arts from the Directorate of Culture, of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Saini KM, presented his scientific speech on the development of Islam and the tradition of West Java culture.
