ISSI can win SEAG overall title

SEMARANG (JP): The Deputy Secretary General of the Indonesian Cycling Association (ISSI) Sofyan Ruzian was optimism that Indonesia could win the overall title in the cycling event at the 2001 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Kuala Lumpur.

He told reporters on Monday that Indonesia could win at least nine out of the 20 gold medals on offer in the biennial event.

He said that the association was collecting information on the national cyclists who would be invited to the SEA Games training program which was due to start next January.

"Based on our observations in the National Games (PON) in July, we have 50 prospective cyclists who will be invited to the training program," he stated.

He said that the ISSI had established certain rules to help improve the cyclists' achievements in the Games, such as banning a cyclist from performing in two events.

"We have plenty of cyclists who are good in road race and track events. But they will have to elect for one event," he said. (har)
