Israel's war intentions

Israel is annoyed that the whole world is in agreement that it is the country overturning the Middle East peace process by conducting an aggressive policy, particularly its insistence on maintaining its settlements in the occupied territories.

The world is also in agreement about the need for accelerating the reconstruction of Lebanon, a fact which Israel appears to see as a gesture to hold it partly responsible for the damage inflicted in that country. That, ironically, might prompt the Jewish state to carry out yet another large-scale military aggression against southern Lebanon or the Golan Heights.

Israel may have in fact already prepared to launch such an aggression when it announced unilaterally that Katyusha rockets had been fired last week into Galilee from Lebanese territory.

That announcement could be a prelude to wide-scale aggression designed to circumvent the prerequisites of peace, and at the same time ease the international pressure that has begun to increase on Israel after the world became convinced of its non- peaceful intentions.

This possible aggression would be part of Israel's provocative policy to torpedo the peace process and spread tension, which could cause the whole region to explode at any time.
