ISDN users to meet here

JAKARTA (JP): Users of Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) and Intelligent Network (IN) facilities will gather today at PT Indosat's headquarters to discuss utilization of the services in the country.

The two-day event, organized by the Indonesia ISDN and IN User Forum, will feature the secretary-general of the Ministry of Tourism, Post and Telecommunications, Jonathan L. Parapak, the forum's president, Suryatin Setiawan, and Indosat president Tjahjono Soerjodibroto as speakers.

The forum will also hold an exhibition and launch a book on ISDN guidelines.

ISDN evolved from a telephony integrated digital network into a network that provides end-to-end digital connectivity. The network supports a wide range of services, including voice and non-voice services, which users can access through a limited set of standard multi-purpose user network interfaces.

There are currently several ISDN applications, including high- speed facsimiles, videophones, multimedia terminals, switched digital backups, personal computer cards and terminal adapters.

Indonesia launched ISDN, locally termed as Pasopati, last September with Indosat and PT Telkom as its sponsors. (icn)
