Is profiteering a major issue?

I am a foreigner who gets my paycheck from my headquarters outside of Indonesia. I travel to Indonesia very often on business trips. Of course, I shop here whenever I have a chance to do so.

Usually when I buy something, I first calculate the amount into foreign currency even if I am paying for it in rupiah. I have found that in many cases, the product I buy is much cheaper than what it was before the monetary crisis in terms of foreign currency -- even if I'm paying more in rupiah. Some of the goods that I have bought were imported.

I think to put the blame for soaring prices solely on profiteering may not always be correct.
