Irishman released

JAKARTA (JP): The Irishman caught by police in an early morning raid Thursday at JJ's, Jl. Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, has been released by police and cleared of all charges.

The Irishman, identified by police only as Br, phoned The Jakarta Post yesterday to say he was unhappy that his arrest had made it into the paper, claiming that this could damage his reputation.

"I would like to make this clear and to bring this to your attention so as to exonerate (sic) both my name and the company I work for and to save us any further inconvenience or embarrassment," he wrote in a written statement to the Post yesterday.

Police had arrested him for possession of marijuana. (sur)
