Irian Jaya gets 3 more regencies

JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya: Minister of Home Affairs Moch. Yogie
S.M. inaugurated three new regencies and installed the regents
yesterday.

The three new regencies are Puncak Jaya, Paniai and Mimika
with the new regents Ruben Ambrauw, Januarius L. Dow, and Titus
O. Potereyauw respectively.

The ceremony was held at the Mandala sports stadium, where
Governor Jacob Pattipi and commander of the Cendrawasih regional
military command were present.

Yogie said the opening of the three new regencies was aimed at
improving public services and facilitate the development process
on the huge and sparsely populated island, Antara reported. (pan)
