IPTN delivers Shinwa's AFTE
BANDUNG (JP): State-owned PT IPTN handed over on Monday 12 automotive engine assembling units to Shinwa Engineering Indonesia, a subsidiary of the giant Toyota car maker.
The 12 were the last of 25 Assy Fixture Toyota Engines (AFTE) ordered by Shinwa from IPTN as part of the aircraft manufacturing company diversification program to stay afloat.
The contract was said to be worth US$51,904.
The last batch of the assembling units were presented by IPTN director of human resources Jusman SD to Shinwa president Tomoo Harada.
Harada said IPTN had been awarded the contract because its price was 70 percent lower than if the job had been carried out by Toyota or Shinwa in Japan.
Jusman said IPTN management had allowed up to 30 percent of its fabrication capacity and between 20 and 30 percent of its engineering capacity to be used for processing non-aircraft jobs.
IPTN has lost all government funding under a 1998 stipulation set by the International Monetary Fund.
Since then, the company has streamlined its workforce and geared up its assets to generate revenue, including processing jobs from outside the aircraft industry.
Jusman said IPTN was currently preparing for further cooperative deals with Shinwa to manufacture special engines, such as leak testers, and washing machines. The contract will be worth $130,000.(43/02)
