IPKI drums up spirits' support

YOGYAKARTA: Lacking mass support to show off force in the streets, the Independence Vanguard (IPKI) Party activists campaigned from one cemetery to another here over the weekend.

In their prayers, the activists of the party founded by veteran independence fighters asked for the spirits' help to make next month's election a success.

"We also asked for the spirits' support for (Yogyakarta's) Sultan Hemengkubuwono X, the next president of the Republic," said Sumohardjo, an executive of the party's branch in Sleman.

IPKI Party has thrown its support behind the popular Sultan's presidential bid.

The party activists visited the Pakualam Mausoleum in Kulonprogo, about 40 kilometers west of here, Here Cemetery and independence pioneer Wahidin Sudirohusodo's grave in Sleman. (swa)
