Invitro triplets born

YOGYAKARTA: Dr. Sardjito General Hospital announced that triplets conceived using invitro fertilization have been born in the hospital.

Hospital Director Sri Endarini told journalists here on Thursday that a former high school English teacher, Ida Rahmawati, 31, had given birth to three babies on Feb. 10.

Ida had been a patient of the hospital's invitro fertilization program.

The invitro fertilization was conducted by a team of doctors led by gynecology and obstetrics specialist A.R. Amino Rahardjo.

"All the babies and their mother are in good health," said Amino to local journalists.

"Actually we prepared four embryos for the pregnancy, but only three developed and were born," Amino explained.

The babies' father, Yansum, M.D., expressed joy at having triplets saying that he and his wife had been trying to have a child for seven years.

After seven years of marriage with no children, Yansum, a doctor, and Ida then joined the hospital's Permata Hati program for invitro fertalization.

Both declined to mention the amount of money they had spent for the program.

"It's not a matter of money. It's not a commercial program. It is a program for helping parents who want babies," said Amino.

Yansum and Ida are now the proud parents of a boy named Rahmat Dani and two girls named Rahmadana, and Rahmadini.

The first invitro baby at Dr. Sardjito hospital was born in 1997.(23)
