Int'l volleyball tourney planned
JAKARTA (JP): The city administration will hold a sister city volleyball tournament for the second time, from July 15 to July 21.
The city secretary's Assistant for Welfare Affairs, Soenarjudardji, said yesterday that the tournament, which was first held in 1994, is aimed at increasing cooperation between Jakarta and its sister cities.
"The tournament also has other goals, such as publicizing the sister city program, as well as improving our players," Soenarjudardji said.
A total of 12 cities will participate in the tournament. Nine are sister cities of Jakarta, with the remaining three being guest cities.
The sister cities which will participate in the tournament are Seoul, Beijing, Berlin, New South Wales, Rotterdam, Arkansas, Tokyo and Los Angeles. The guest cities are Bangkok, Cairo and Eindhoven.
The head organizer, Eddy Widodo, said that the cities are sending their college teams. (yns)
