Int'l meeting at Habibie Center

JAKARTA: Indonesia will host a preparatory meeting of the Interaction Council (IC) congress held to discuss peace and religious issues following the Sept. 11, 2001 attack on the United States.

The meeting will be held at the Habibie Center on March 11 and March 12. Former president B.J. Habibie is a member of the international organization that groups former heads of government from around the world.

"The meeting is aimed at preventing further clashes of civilization through religious cooperation in the world," the center's executive, Muladi, said on Friday after a meeting with President Megawati Soekarnoputri.

He said that Habibie, former Australian prime minister Malcolm Fraser and former Ghana president Jerry John Rowlings would be among the 30 heads of state slated to attend the Jakarta meeting.

Muladi, a former minister of justice, said that Megawati would receive the meeting's participants at the State Palace.--JP
