Int'l fine arts expo opens today
Tonight marks the official opening of the Jakarta International Fine Arts Exhibition at the Shangri-la Hotel.
This extraordinary exhibition organized by the Yayasan Seni Rupa Indonesia (Indonesia Fine Arts Foundation) will be open daily until 10 p.m. for public viewing until Oct. 23 and will include 500 paintings from numerous acclaimed Indonesian artists and international painters as well.
Never before has such a massive endeavor been undertaken and for Rp 5,000 Jakarta residents will be able to see paintings by such Indonesian masters as Raden Saleh, Basuki Abdullah and Affandi hanging alongside works by Matisse, Renoir, Chagall, Klee and Gaugin to name but a few.
In conjunction with the exhibit, several seminars will be presented by prominent art critics and dealers from Indonesia, New York and Zurich.(jas)
