Int'l conference on truth commission

JAKARTA: The Institute for Policy Research and Advocacy (ELSAM) will hold a three-day conference on Monday on the International Commission for Truth and Reconciliation.

Held at Hotel Santika, Central Jakarta, the conference will feature international experts who have dealt with the issue, including Howard Varney (South Africa, Sierra Leone), Marcie Mersky (Guatemala) and Nugraha Katjasungkana (Timor Leste), as well as a number of legislators and activists.

The conference is aimed at examining Law No. 27/2004 on the establishment of the truth and reconciliation commission, and identifying the problems and solutions needed to settle past human rights violations in the country.-- JP
