Internet access available through 'IndoNet' service

JAKARTA (JP): Number of readers have been anxiously asking whether there's a cost-efficient way they can access Internet in Indonesia. Have I got good news for you! You can now access Internet through PT IndoInternet's network, called IndoNet.

To become a member of IndoNet, the registration fee is Rp 50,000 and monthly fee is Rp 40,000. This monthly fee entitles you to up to 15 hours of access time. Additional connect time will cost you Rp 2,000 per hour. For more information, you can fax 470-2965. To try out the system or to register, you can use your modem to dial 470-2888, using the VT 100 emulation.

IndoNet can handle transmission speeds up to 14.400 bps, although for the Jakarta area the safest speed is 1200 bps. Payment should be in money transfer or by credit card.

At the moment, IndoNet local services include electronic mail, conferencing, news and downloading of files. It has a 24-hour connection with a site in Los Angeles, the United States, which allows you to access Internet and use its electronic mail, Telnet, FTP and navigating tools. At the moment no file transfer capability is available yet due to a very limited bandwidth of connection. The company is working hard to obtain additional bandwidth.

Well, at least now you can have what you've been itching for. As we roll into 1995, hopefully we will all have more and more commercial Internet access providers. Not only will this lower the cost to users, it will also enable more and more of us to access such a wealth of knowledge scattered all over Cyberspace.
