Integration figure passes away

JAKARTA: Jose Antonio Bonifasio Filomena Dos Reis Araujo who once fought for East Timor's integration into Indonesia died here on Wednesday.

Antara reported that Jose Antonio had held a number of important posts including that of regent of Ainaro from 1988 to 1993, and as chairman of the provincial development planning board. He helped found Apodeti, a political party in East Timor under Portugal, which later demanded freedom from Lisbon and integration with Indonesia.

Jose was the eldest son of East Timor's first governor Arnaldo Dos Reis Araujo. (swe)
