Insurance paid to workers' families

JAKARTA (JP): State insurance company PT Jamsostek has paid social security to the families of 13 construction workers killed in accidents at a West Jakarta site.

Jamsotek director of services and guarantees said yesterday the last three payments were for the deaths of workers employed by contractor You One-Adhi Karya J.O., at the Taman Anggrek mall and condominium project.

The workers were Wasli, 21, and Bibit Setyawan, 21, who fell from the 11th floor last month and Tugiran, 26, who was hit by a car on Oct. 11.

Wasli's and Bibit's families each got Rp 7.8 million. Tugiran's family got Rp 9.4 million, Antara reported.

Sukarna said the firm paid Rp 101 million to the families of 13 killed workers, Rp 12.2 million to seven workers who became invalids and Rp 22.7 million for 29 hospitalized workers.

The management of the developer, PT Mulia Inti Pelangi, said earlier it had now implemented stricter work safety measures.

Sukarna lamented many workers still neglected safety measures.

The management has reported 18 fatal accidents to the Ministry of Manpower. (anr)
