ING Life responds

Referring to the letter submitted by Mr. Hans de Graaf (The Jakarta Post, Aug. 21: Insurance and illness), we would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest appreciation for the trust that has been placed in ING during the last six years by Mr. and Mrs. Hans de Graaf. During this period, both Mr. and Mrs. De Graaf have submitted medical claims, all of which has been duly honored by ING because of the fact that the claims were valid in accordance with the insurance policies.

The main reason why Mr. De Graaf's last claim could not be processed was because of the "preexisting" clause in the contract. Under the clause, a preexisting condition may not be necessarily known to the insured. Please note that "prediagnosed" is different, under which circumstances Mr. De Graaf's claims would be valid.

We sincerely hope that a continued mutually beneficial relationship between ING and Mr. De Graaf can be maintained upon clarification of the issue above.
