Indra in AMI-Sharp Award team
JAKARTA: Jazz musician Indra Lesmana and pop singer Adi Kla have been appointed as members of a team in charge of establishing categories of the music genres to vye for the upcoming AMI-Sharp Awards.
The artists will determine the six categories of music up for grabs at the prestigious awards on Sept. 6, 2006.
AMI (Indonesian Music Award) chairman Dimas Wahab said on Tuesday that Indra and Adi were well-versed in categorization.
"We are sure that although they are musicians, they will be able to work independently," Wahab said.
Their appointment was based on public criticism of last year's awards categorization. "We hope the appointment of young talented musicians will correct past mistakes," Wahab said.
AMI-Sharp Awards, the local version of the Grammy Awards, is held annually. Selection and nomination are conducted by selected members of the Indonesian Music Awards Foundation (YAMI), which numbers almost 1,200 people at present.--Antara
