Indosat to hold bowling tournament

JAKARTA (JP): The top bowlers from nine provinces and Batam Island are competing for a total cash prize of Rp 86.75 million in the Sixth National Indosat Championships at the Jaya Ancol and Megamal Pluit bowling allies from Nov. 12 to Nov. 21.

The bowlers come from North Sumatra, South Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau, East Kalimantan, Jakarta, West Java, East Java, Bali and Batam.

Organizer Teguh Trilaksono said on Friday the 10-day tournament was being held to commemorate state-owned international telecommunications provider Indosat's 20th anniversary on Nov. 22.

"We are, of course, grateful to be able to hold this national- level tournament. We also want to contribute to the sport of bowling," Brata Hardjosubroto of Indosat said.

The tournament also will feature participants from both private and foreign companies, as well as police officers, Teguh said.

Teguh added that any bowler who recorded a perfect game would win Rp 25 million.

National Sports Council vice chairman Harsuki opened the tournament on Friday by bowling the first ball. (lnt)
